Often an “addition” will be just that. This is different.
By pushing its way functionally into the older house, there is not a clear demarcation but a blurring of the edges. Whilst deferential to scale and materiality, in part inspired by an existing glass and timber sideboard, the flow of space grows from the existing volumes and opens up opportunities of orientation.
Materiality is both warm and complementary with raw concrete, bellying its pragmatic origins, being use as a living, textured complement for the beautiful stone and timber used elsewhere. Salvaged recycled timbers in the ceiling detail and external entertaining reference the previous additions, and layer the volumes.
