Retaining the original heritage cottage as an anchor for the site, a new glass and blackened timber pavilion is inserted to the inside arc of the existing form, readied for a more contemporary occupation. Set within the Barossa Valley in Mount McKenzie, mt Mac forms part of a larger rural estate and working farm. Originally imagined as a temporary home during larger renovations, an impassioned client and a love of detailing and a fascination with design saw an expanded program. Together with his artist wife, the cottage is animated with a curation of collected and found antique and newly acquired treasures.
