F.A.W.L. Lighting
Adelaide, 2023
Born during a time of drawing focus on locality, the F.A.W.L. (From Adelaide With Love) Lighting collection is inspired by a reduced energy footprint. In looking closer to home, the pieces are formed from wanting to expand on what was being produced in near communities, and to engage the local design and arts families to create something beautiful, and meaningful, together.
Inspired by the spaces the Ivy and the Leore were to be inserted into, an arched geometry defines the collection. Adding a softening motion, despite the robustness of the brass framework that holds the pieces taut, the F.A.W.L. Lighting collection is one of balance. Combining a nod to the classical forms we are all familiar with, with something more bold and sculptural, the bringing together of disciplines (design, metalwork, glass blowing and pottery) is what makes each of the pieces unique.
What was developed in response to the needs of a particular project, quickly evolved into an extension of our own ethos as a practice – to engage local crafts people, and to create something unique. In developing an identifiably Adelaide sensibility in remaining local, the pieces represent and capture contemporary practice.
In collaboration with Handmade and Found, together with artists Llewelyn Ash, Ebony Heidenreich and Yuro Cuchor, the pieces see each contributor leave their own individual mark on the spaces they inhabit.
